Considering River Front Property? (On the Ganges) By Steve Kunysz Since TechUnite started tracking the number of American jobs “offshored”, over 250,000 jobs have been moved overseas. George W. sees this as a good thing as it will help business become more profitable. Yes, I suppose that could be a good thing for the corporate officers and such, but what about the American worker? What is to become of the quarter million American Working Families directly affected by the “offshoring” of American jobs? How is the loss of good paying American jobs good for them? Synygy, Inc. has an interesting solution to their workers problems regarding the planned “offshoring” of their jobs. This Pennsylvania technology company is moving their work to Iasi, Romania and Pune, India. Permanent employees are being offered the incredible opportunity to move with their work! And, the clincher to this great offer, the American workers who move to India or Romania will receive the same salary and the same benefits as their fellow Indian and Romanian co-workers! Is this a joke? If only that were so. A Company spokesperson said that employees will probably be making 70% less, but the cost of living in Pune is so much less that it may be possible for the workers to save money. I suppose that is a possibility, as at least 300 million Indians exist on one dollar a day or less. If the living conditions in India are so desirable and so affordable, why are there so many immigrants from there living here in the U.S.A? Romania is still trying to recover from the collapse of Communism, still affected by many infrastructure problems. In an effort to slow down this loss of American jobs, specifically jobs in California, the State Legislature has passed four bills, which are waiting for the Governor’s signature. AB 1829 by Assembly member Liu would assure that state taxpayer dollars will be used to create jobs in the United States. SB 1492 by Senator Dunn will allow patients to have control over their private medical records that are being offshored. Almost all medical transcriptions are done overseas. SB 888, also by Senator Dunn would guarantee that work essential to homeland security would be performed in the United States. AB 3021 by the Assembly Labor Committee will require businesses with over 250 employees to report the number of jobs they have in California, in other states and in other countries. None of these bills stops “offshoring” of American jobs, but they are a start. Send an e-mail or letter to Governor Schwarzenegger to sign these bills. That is, unless you were looking to move anyway.
